Pears: Delicious for You… and Good for Your Poo Too!

Sweet, juicy and wonderfully fragrant, our organic Williams’ Bon Chretien pears are delicious to eat — and they have plenty going for them nutritionally too!

The CSIRO reviewed 72 scientific studies on pears and found that pears are a useful source of dietary fibre and naturally occurring plant compounds, including phenolic compounds. The review also highlighted the combination of fibre, sorbitol and fructose naturally found in pears, which may help support normal bowel function.

Our Williams’ Bon Chretien are also commonly known as William Bartlett or Bartlett pears. Australian Food Composition Database data for this variety shows that 100 g of raw, unpeeled pear contains approximately:

  • 3.7 g dietary fibre
  • 106 mg potassium
  • 6 mg vitamin C
  • 44 µg folate
  • 7 mg magnesium
  • 2.8 g sorbitol
  • 84.7 g water

So, there’s plenty of natural goodness packed into this juicy fruit.

Pears naturally contain fibre and sorbitol. Fibre supports healthy digestion, while sorbitol can draw water into the bowel, helping to soften stools and keep things moving.

So there really is some science behind the old-fashioned idea that pears can help keep your bowels moving!

We make our pear juice from our own organic Williams’ Bon Chretien pears, grown right here at Messines Farm.

Our juice is pasteurised for safety and contains no added preservatives — just delicious pear juice made from our own organic fruit.

We’ve had stockists tell us they’ve struggled to find pear juice suppliers, and we’ve even had customers travel from Brisbane to Burleigh Heads specifically to buy our pear juice. That’s special!

Pear juice is available for pick-up from local collection locations including Burleigh Heads, Canungra and Springbrook, with a wholesale rate available when you purchase 9 or more bottles.

Our fresh Williams’ Bon Chretien pears are now available to pre-order for January.
