What do you get when you mix sunshine through the trees, soulful tunes, and a community ready to change the world? You get Messy. And at Ground Currumbin, on the weekend, we saw just how beautiful that kind of Messy can be.
On May 24, under the leafy canopy of Ground Currumbin, a colourful crowd of families, foodies, and future-thinkers gathered for the outdoor screening of Messy: Regenerative Agriculture, this time, with a joyful, community festival twist.
From the get-go, there was magic in the air. Local musician Kate Leopold, accompanied by band Harry, Josh and Julie, kicked things off with soulful sounds drifting through the valley, while little ones buzzed between nature-based activities like composting games at the Natura Pacific Discovery Station ran by our amazing educator Alecia De Piazza and transforming into bees, butterflies, and bats at our pollinator face painting station with Julz.
As parents sampled our delicious juice at the Messy pop-up store and grabbed some farm-fresh goodness to take home, the kids discovered that recycling and soil health can be as fun as they are fundamental. Across the lawn, the team at Pasture & Co was keeping everyone’s tummies happy with delicious sliders, housemade soup and focaccia, and chippies for the kiddos!
And then the moment we were all waiting for.
As the sun dipped low, guests grabbed picnic rugs and camp chairs and settled in under the pavilion for the much-anticipated screening of the four-part docuseries Messy: Regenerative Agriculture. Shot across the stunning surrounds of the Granite Belt and South East Queensland, the film digs deep into the stories of farmers, food growers, and everyday changemakers who are helping to regenerate land, biodiversity, and community from the soil up.
This wasn’t your average doco night. It was a heartfelt, hands-dirty love letter to the land. The challenges, the hope, the chaos, and the beauty of working with nature rather than against it.
And just when we thought our minds and hearts were full, our expert panel filled us up even more. Guest MC Amy McDonald brought her signature warmth and wit, guiding a meaningful conversation with:
As laughter, questions, and stories flowed, one thing became beautifully clear: regeneration isn’t just about the land, it’s about people. About communities coming together to support, share, and shift the way we live and grow.
